Atlanta, Georgia – September 19, 2012 – Today, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution declaring December 3, 2012 as “National Phelylketonuria Awareness Day.” Phelylketonuria (PKU) is a rare inheritable condition which inhibits the body from processing the essential amino acid, phenylalanine. When left untreated, the disorder causes severe neurological dysfunction. The resolution, co-sponsored by Senator Johnny Isakson and Senator John Kerry, is the first step in requiring insurance coverage for the formula that patients need to avoid the brain-damaging effects of PKU.

“The passing of this resolution is the culmination of three years of hard work and lobbying efforts by Kristen Vanags, President of Georgia PKU Connect, and others on the board. I’m very excited that Jabian Cares has helped Georgia PKU Connect move the ball forward and make a major splash at the national level,” says Jabian Consulting’s Fred Jewell, board member of both Georgia PKU Connect and Jabian Cares.

Georgia PKU Connect provides families and individuals with the support and resources needed to manage PKU and live healthy, productive lives. Jabian Cares, Jabian Consulting’s employee-funded 501(c)(3) charitable organization, is a continual supporter and proud sponsor of Georgia PKU Connect.
